The compulsory post

Thursday, March 04, 2010

Is it a truism that all natural history bloggers have to have a 'spring is here post'?  Either way, I'm going to get mine out of the way early.

Look!  It's spring!  It has sprung!  Hurrah!

it might be a  Pussy Willow.  But I expect to be corrected.

Didn't see the low tides (work) and haven't seen many birds lately either.  Ho hum.

Willows are notoriously difficult to ID. A notable botanist once said "To identify Willows, you have to have spent a lifetime with them. "
Yes, there are notable botanists.
Up here the story would be more about when is Spring ever going to come.
Best wishes from Ray

I stick on a couple of compulories now and again but I was watching Dippers carrying nesting material on the Wansbeck today and placing it under an overhang which was covered in icicles...springs still a long way off here!
